Part of a two week trip. Kyoto is the most popular tourist destination in Japan with amazing temples and gardens - it has 17 World Heritage Sights. Koya-san is the headquarters of the Shingon school of Esoteric Buddhism with a number of temples where you can stay for the night. Previously the capital of Japan, Nara is culturally rich with eight Unesco World Heritage sights.
