The recent re-visit to Kenya saw me spending most of the time in urban areas. Of the one fortnight I had spent in this East African republic, I was in the capitol city of Nairobi for 9 days and in Kisumu, the country's third largest city for two.
Nairobi is a metropolis. Downtown is small and retains much of the building built 40, 50 years ago. It is quite beautiful albeit some unwelcome nuisance coming from some street boys.
Nairobi is new, just slightly over a hundred years old. It is old, retaining a strong aroma of old world charm of the early sixties.
Most people would have come and gone, barely making a stop in Nairobi. This is true unless you are a diplomat or a businessman for Nairobi is a regional commercial centre. This is also the seat of African HQ of UNICEF.
I like Nairobi. I like the old buildings. They are those you could found in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong 2 or 3 decades ago. You might probably find some in London today. But they are here and there and every where. Cool..........
