Sitting in the middle of Hue is the Imperial Citadel, a similar but slightly scaled-down version of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The structures are impressive but the sad thing is most of the palaces & temples were destroyed by the American indiscriminate bombings in 1968. There are efforts to re-construct the lost buildings that will take years and tons of money to do so. Foreign governments except the USA are donating generously to this cause.
