Vietnam, a narrow strip of land ravaged by wars and supporting mostly impoverished 80 million population, has put in great efforts to preserve their natural and historical heritage. In the past 10 years, 6 sites have made their ways to the UNESCO World Heritage listing, a testimony to Vietnam's strong will to rebuild a nation not only into the future, but back to the past too.
In Nov 2004, I visited 5 of the sites in a north-to-south journey and witnessed myself what a wonderful place Vietnam could offer to world travellers.
The sites with the year of UNESCO World Heritage listing awarded are:
1993 Complex of Hué Monuments, 1994 & 2000 Ha Long Bay, 1999 Hoi An Ancient Town, 1999 My Son Sanctuary
Clement Liang Penang, Malaysia
