This fortress was built in the time of Hernan Cortéz, it was built with the purpose to alert the Spaniards from other ships coming to port, some coming from Spain or some pirats, that way they would be ready for anything that came their way. This place was in one famous movie called "Romancing the Stone" with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, they showed some alligators, but in the movie they said they were in Cartagena, Colombia, which isn't true! It is Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico.
