Ek Balam (Black jaguar) was an important center on the Yucatan peninsula that was occupied up to the spanish conquest. The site is not very big and can be seen for a couple of hours. It was opened only recently to the public, hence there aren't a lot of tourists and you one enjoy it peacefully, without the Cancun crowds. Valladolid is located approximately 25 kilometers from Ek Balam and is a nice stop on the way back to Cancun or Riviera Maya.
