San Miguel has more than 40 churches and chapels, an astonishing number considering the size of this community. Another source states that the town has fifteen churches and six patron saints, therefore we can conclude that SMA has a lot of chapels? There are hundreds more churches and chapels scattered throughout the countryside, none more than a dozen miles from the well-known La Parroquia in the center of San Miguel. Most of the churches date back to the early 18th and 19th centuries, many of great historical importance, and all are fascinating.
