San Miguel de Allende is a colonial delight, one of the prettiest of Mexico's colonial cities. Declared a national monument in 1926, it remains a relatively untouched antique city of the old world. Here you will see ancient churches, arched colonial mansions and walled houses brightly painted in various earthy tones, lush courtyards and flower-filled patios, all strung along the town's narrow cobblestone streets. What you won't see are traffic lights, parking meters, billboards, neon signs, or cold glass towers or sky scrapers. In fact, no building is allowed that doesn't conform to the Colonial style.
This charming, picturesque town, with its mild weather and slow pace is sure to capture your heart. It did mine, and obviously the hearts of many others from all over the world, who come, return often, and, in many cases, decide to stay.
