Sightseeing in San Miguel de Allende picture - known as "alfenique" are typically small animals such as lambs, miniature plates of food (enchiladas with mole), small coffins, often with pop-up skeletons, and of course, the sugar skull or "calavera." These were used to decorate altars or 'ofrendas' in homes & sometimes businesses. There were lots of stalls selling these in the artisan market and & also lots in local shops.
