View of the Mekong River from Luang Prabang. Travelling by boat down this river can be quite an experience as it is no gentle stream. It is basically minor rapids for most of the way to Vientianne and can be quite exciting at times. You can go by fast boats or slow boats. The fast boats are speed-boats and you wear a crash helmet and a lifejacket and sit in the sun hanging on for your life for 10 hours. If you crashed I wouldn't fancy your chances - I would hate to try to swim in that current. We took the slow boat.
