I hope these photos show something of the beauty and tranquility of the land of Myanmar (or Burma as I still prefer to call it, for no reason other than habit). But not all is beauty and tranquility in Burma, the brutality of the military regime is harder to photograph, and they have learnt to hide it well.

I first visited Burma in 1976. It was a very backward country then, and quite a culture shock for a young traveller. Burma was then controlled by a bunch of psychpaths who believed that the country could go it alone in the world ... (more)
