Temple of Poseidon
Monuments & Memorials in Athens picture - Cape Sounion, at the southern tip of Attica. A sacred place to the ancients. The Odyssey, tells us that Menelaus buried his steersman Pronthis here, on the return journey from Troy. Across the road, there are the remains of the Temple of Athena, the goddess of wisdom after whom Athens itself is named, and usually neglected or merely pointed out, as a group treks up to see the main attraction, Poseidon's Temple.
