64-m Parkes radio telescope
Outdoor Sculpture in New South Wales picture - The 64-m Parkes radio telescope in western New South Wales was opened in 1961 as a National Astronomical Observatory for radio observations of the southern sky. The telescope, one of the largest dishes in the world, was able to provide an essential support role to NASA as a tracking station for the Apollo 11 to Apollo 17 manned flights to the moon between 1969 and 1972.
