I guess that the tidepool area is one of the best in Southern CA so if you are there in the winter or during times with negative tides, get over there while the tide is low and you should be able to see some neat creatures(anenomes, starfish, clams, etc) It would definitely be worth it.
Unfortunately the park is only open til 4 or 5 o'clock so you can't watch the sun set but if you are there during dec or jan and the sun is setting around 4, a sun set would be gorgeous from up there.
I did do the bayside trail and it is a very nice trail. You have a view of downtown San Diego the entire time and you can see big ships going out to sea. I also saw some helicopters. The naval base and an air force base I believe are on coronado island. The trail is two miles long and is not strenous. The beginning of the trail is paved and then turns to gravel. It ended up taking me about 45 minutes I think.
I went to Carlsbad beach one day with my sister and nephew. The water was very cold so I couldn't swim, body surf, or boogie board. I did get in up to about my knees but that was it. The beaches of San Diego County are all great and worth trips any time of the year. I just love the ocean and the sound of the waves coming in.
I threw in a couple of pictures from my plane ride back to Iowa. They are of the Salt Lake City area. It's really nice outside here now so I need to get outside and enjoy the weather. If you have any questions about these areas, drop me an email and I will try to help you out jrastrel@iastate.edu
