It's Pulau Betong..Yes!!
For the first 9 pix...it's near Pantai Pasir Panjang , Pulau Betong , Balik Pulau..One of my fav beach...:) And the others ..I think..is Gurney Drive... I am a Penangites myself...and I agree just a small..very small part indeed is affected by tsunami...But then..It is considered the worst as it took many innocent lives...

...may change regional priorities
As these pictures were send by your friends we are witness to an incredible deadly tsunami wave. Tidal wave sweeps up crowds (including unaware onlookers too) along shores of Indian Ocean. On these pictures we can see devastation. I hope that one day in the future the local governments will install an early warning system and lessons learned from disaster may change regional priorities and could create greater unity. You should have explained that these pix were taken of the 2 worst hit areas of shoreline in Penang, & that the rest of the island fared quite well. These pix leave the impression that the whole island looks like that, which isn't true. Mayeb someone who is there can post some pix of other areas, post-cleanup?

For the first few picture, is it Pulau Betong? And why the date on the first picture shown 23/12/2004 while this happen on 26/12/2004...
