The Jesuits founded Mandaue in 1600. Mandaue lies at one end of the bridge to Mactan Island. On the shore beneath the bridge is a tower, called Bantayan sa Hari, formerly used to watch for Muslim raiders. Mandaue has been a boomtown in recent decades and is the site of the giant San Miguel brewery complex and other factories, plants and mills. </div></nolayer></noembed>
