For days I traveled through a stultifying sameness of flat scrublands, seemingly endless kilometers of weirdly shaped termite mounds and oddly shaped trees..the land seemed nine-tenths sky - a hot brazen sky that seemed not to vault overhead but to press down like a heavy hand, suffocating everything beneath.
