Transpantanera, Pantanal, Brazil

The northern Pantanal is basically accessed by one road - the transpantanera. It was intended to cross the Pantanal, but the waters defeated the road builders. There are over 100 bridges on the road and there is water and birds everywhere. We were there in June, but any time of the year is good, provided the road isn't flooded. September is best for birds, but it is a lot dryer then.

The road 262 from Maranda
262 is the number two road through the amazing Pantanal area. It goes to Corumba. The wild life is dominant there and the human presents is scant. A wounderful place to find one's roots. I wish everyone could see Tucans fly in the wild. Liberating! Thanks for your pictures. Robert Abramson

Was in Pantanal in '99 but didn't take good pics of the beautiful wildlife since all my brother & I did was to throw stones at those stationary caimans to make them move! Your fine pics makes me want to surely go back there someday. (Pantanal's birds are SO PRETTY!!!)
