(a digital "oil painting"). Although Malta Island is rocky and almost barren, its much smaller neighbour Gozo is green and fertile. Its produce kept the people of both islands alive during the protracted 1942 aerial siege when Axis powers tried to bomb and starve the country into submission. Thisd photo was taken from the walls of The Citadel, a cathedral-fortress in Gozo's capital, Victoria. It shows some of the many other churches in the distance. The Maltese are VERY pious people.
