Saipan, the North Mariana Island

I wonder how many of you have been to Saipan, , Northern Mariana Islands, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islads! I wonder how many of you have ever wanted to come!

This is a small island, one of 14 in the Commonwealth which is a Dependant Territority of the United States of America. It is 30 minutes by plane from Guam, 3 hours from Tokyo and 4 hours from Hong Kong. Margaret Blanco Matsumo had two sisters and two brothers one was Hermenia and brother Tony. She was a Liberation Day Queen and sold tickets at the Chalan Kanoa Theater. They also sold Double Mint Gum and Pepsi - about the only refreshments they had. Thanks again.

Back in March 2007 I requested a response from anyone that knew Herman Matsumoto's daughter Margaret Blanco Matsumoto. She was born on January 10, 1940 and worked at the Chalan Kanoa Theater in 1960-1961 when I was stationed on Saipan with the U.S. Navy. I heard she married a sailor named Rafferty and moved to New York but later moved back to Saipan. I would really appreciate knowing where she is and if she's still alive. I last saw her 50 years ago. Thank you.....eagerly awaiting a reply.

Well what can I say about this beautiful Island? First of all I live there my entire life, you just can't beat the life style there, its so laid back not much crime and I mean BIG crime not the minor ones. If you want a really nice vacation time, this is the place to go, people are always superb, easy going, and don't forget the beautiful site. Its a vacation you will never forget.

Great pictures! I do tend to forget the beauty of our island. Probably it's because I haven't gone out that much since I came back from Hawaii, just been working hard to support my family. I lived in Saipan for 9 years and it is a good place to see. Beautiful place, serene ambiance, no pollution, I love the beaches and would love to go back there soon. I left so many friends there.

Saipan. One horse town.
I lived in Saipan, years ago, working for the only American-Owned resort. The island was pretty, sunny and desolate. Oceanwater clear, sunsets beautiful, golf inexpensive for Americans only. The town looks as run down as the gov't is run. Unfortunately, the foreign contract workers which the island couldn't function without, are paid only $3.50 an hour.
