My husband & I stumbled upon Paya Indah Wetlands quite by accident - We had actually set out in search of Kampung Endah, which was voted as Malaysia's most beautiful village. About 30 minutes into our quest, we started seeing road signs to the wetlands, and, having heard that it was a beautiful place, we decided to "pop in". Well, we never found Kampung Endah because we spent the rest of the day there and had one of the most splendid Saturday afternoons away from the hustle & bustle of Kuala Lumpur.

Paya Indah Wetlands is about 45 minutes' drive away from Kuala Lumpur. It is located on the B18 road between the towns of Dengkil and Banting. You will never be able to imagine that a wetlands existed there because all you see from the road along the way are small villages dotted with petrol kiosks, oil palm plantations, upcoming housing developments with golf courses, factories and snail-paced trucks holding up traffic. I was totally awe-strucked when we drove in past the park gates and saw acres of beautiful sprawling pink lotus flowers bobbing in the blue, blue water. And harder to even imagine is that these wetlands 6 years ago was barren land stripped of life as a result of heavy mining and logging.

These wetlands are still very young but the rehabilitation programme sems to be doing well. There are some some facilities/activities catered for visitors such as a restaurant, chalets for rent, kayaking, horse riding, tram rides and for an entrance fee of RM10 per/adult on weekends (RM8 weekdays), you get a bottle of mineral water and free bicycle hire for the whole day. The best part was that there was hardly anybody there, even being a weekend. It is truly Selangor's best kept secret... well, at least for now.

We hope you will enjoy some of the photos we've taken on that beautiful sunny day, and perhaps you will be inspired to experience these beautiful wetlands too for yourself one day.
