Chief Wyandanch and Catoneras
I am getting ready to visit Sleepy Hollow next month with my children to tour the Old Dutch Church and Burial Ground, so I was doing more research on my Dutch heritage. Like others who have posted, my mother's maternal line dates back to Catoneras. She was born in 1603 and died one year before her father, in 1659. This led me to ask, when was Wyandanch born? Also, the information on the Net about her being kidnapped by the chief of the Narrangansetts and ransomed by Gardiner can't be true since she was already married to Cornelius Jansen Van Texel in 1624. Anyone know anything more?

I was told my relative Van Texal from Holland settled in Ossining, New York in the 1600's and married the Montauk Indian Chief's daughter Cantaneras. My Grandmother was Edith Van Tassell who Washington Irving used her family for the headless horseman story. The family home was bought for his museam and is still there today. I have trouble finding anything about Cantaneras, so if anyone has anything about her would appreciate the input.

I acually just came home from Montauk 2 days ago... it is so beautiful, the lighthouse and the cliffs that are by it are amazing.. i've been going there since 2000 and i fall in love with it over and over.. thank you for bringing back the lovely memories..

PS- Gosmans Dock in montauk is also a very photogenic area.. the boats and such are so intriguing.. just a thought. Ta Ta!!
