My husband is from mexico and I've been there many times since we have been together 14 years now.Their are poor,rich,and just lazy I seen and I know my brother in law is very lazy.My husband sends up to 400.00 to 600.00 a month to my mother in law.I know their are some that cannot help it but you need to look at the poor here more than there.These people only pay twenty dollars or less to get a tooth pulled.To go to the doctor it's cheap so is medicine and so places get free.I would like to add to one comment someone made their are people still riding donkey go to jalisco or alot of towns with ranchs.My husband's family needs a donkey or horse to haul stuff so they can feed their sheep and chickens.Go to you tube and lokk up mexico jalisco (PULQUE)it show;s them useing donkey to haul stuff.

I was born in Mexico. I know that in Mexico there are alot of poor people. Ya'll only show the poor people and towns. You never take pictures of the rich part of Mexico (because there are rich parts). You think that we have big sombreros and sarapes. Well not all of us are like that. Mexico is not what you think!!!!! It makes me mad when people are so ignorant and think that we still ride donkeys.

Gracias para tus fotos y tu forma de ser. He visto gente muy pobre en Tijuana y la gente que aunque tal vez no gana mucho siempre trata la manera de ayudar la persona que es mas pobre que ellos. Cada dia anda una senora de cien anos en biciclta vendiendo sus dulces y chicles. Cuando ella se para en la frente de un restaurante en la Revolucion, muchos de los hombres que trabajan alli corre a la calle para comprar sus cositas. De verdad, mucha gente de alla tiene un corazon grande. Tambien, me impresiono mucho que la gente joven trata la gente anciana con mucho respecto. Los jovenes de los Estados Unidos pueden aprender una gran leccion de ellos. Gracias!

I miss my parents so much, I just hope to go back some day. Arriba mi raza!! you have no idea
hi, i live in celaya guanajuato (mexico); and i just wanted to tell you that mexico is not what you think it is.... yes there are a lot of poor people (as in every other country); but not everybody is poor and unhappy in mexico, i have a very nice life!, we live in a 10 room house with running water, electricity, etc... we have 4 tv's, 3 computers, 3 cars, air conditioner, etc... and you might think that maybe we are and exeption in mexico, but NO; most of the people over here has a very nice life, and just a little part of mexico live very poorly. well, i just wanted you to know that PD: mexico is a very nice place to go on vacations, the beacjes are very beautiful!!!, i recomend you to visit cancun or ixtapa.

My son-in-law comes from the state of Puebla in a town southeast of Puebla City. He has taught my daughter and I of many things of his life in Mexico, but it still hurts my heart and soul to see photos such as these because I want to do something to help. However, I am also realistic that it is important that others see such because we need to be aware that there are other people who are less fortunate than ourselves. Even if you feel that you are most unfortunate, always remember there are those out there and especially in other countries such as Mexico that would love to have even the littlest thing that you might consider a nuisance. We go there every year because we have family members living there and it a nice and relaxing feeling. I love it there because i get to see different people. It also takes you away from stress and from work. I believe more people should go there often on vacation or holiday time if you have enough to go and time to spare a little extra cash.

Last year I drove from Kansas City to Mazatlan, and was able to see alot of Mexico along the way.

Many of the pople in Mexico literally "scratch out a living". We would see people walking thru the desert with the next town being hours (days?) away.

We stopped to visit my sister-in-law's brother-in-law's family outside of Zacatecas. They live in a 2 room house (11 people), no running water, yet they offered us dinner and gifts.

We dropped off a water pump for the truck they share with other families in the shanty town -- I was amazed how generous, and seemingly happy they seemed.

We are oh so lucky -- and spoiled.

Career
I am new at traveling and have only traveled 2 times. Both times i've gone to the Dominican Republic and was increadably amazed by how poor they are. I gave them many many presents and tips and I want a carerr in helping the poor people around the world. What kind of jobs are out there for me?

The poor children in the Plazas in Downtown Guadalajara became my favorite people in the months I spent there several years ago. There was a particular family of children whose parents lived in the Central Bus Station. There were about seven kids, ranging in age from 3 to 12. They would run up to you with a sticker, stick it on you, then demand payment for the sticker. I never did like that system. I eventually got to know the kids and took the whole group to lunch at least once a week for about 4 months.(They had NEVER eaten at McDonalds until they met me.) These photos are a true testiment to the poverty that these people live with every day. The faces you capture are just like I remember them in my dreams. Keep up the good work.

from chiapas to california
i was born in chiapas and now live ina a very wealth california area i still have family that i go visit every year and i know people go travel and look for pictures and care but it angers me how you will only know how it feels to be poor and helples....i study poli sci and law and plan on returing to chiapas to live sometime i alsa know that as much as we try to help other a country as whole) we cant do it with out helping ourselves first.. i have been hee (USA) and mexico and know that i lived in a not so good area in ca as well we have to same problems as they do just at different stages....so please dont just look at the picture do something.. help... for both countries and others around the world.. feel free to email me subject..Chiapas

how ungrateful we can be.
I feel that many of us can be so ungrateful for what we have. then we see these pictures, and we realize how much we have. Some people may say it's their fault, but it really isn't. It's not there fault the have bad economy rates. WE all need to realize how fortunate we are to have such a great country. This is something people have risked their lives for.They have such kind hearts, and all they want is someone to call on.Not only has this changed me, but it has also made me even more grateful for eveything I have.

Been there
I just got back from Michoacan, two hours from Guadalajara. I loved it and am actually moving there. A big stretch for this spoiled white American girl. There is more than just poor people. The poor and rich live together in homes built connected to each other. If you have a college education like me, you can the same type of job down there.
