On July 20th, 2002, I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica for almost three weeks of volunteer work with a Sea Turtle Conservation Project. "Expect the Unexpected" seemed to become the theme throughout this vacation as upon arrival I was met at the airport and discovered that I would be spending 2 and a half days in San Jose with a local family before reporting to my beach station. This was my first lesson of the trip on how to see everything as an adventure rather than an inconvenience!
