On 12th December 2004, with the cheap airfare we secured from Airasia, we flew from Penang to Bangkok to start our short 7 days Northern Thailand hill tribes adventure. We covered ChiangRai up to Golden Triangle and down to Chiang Mai.

3 days 2 night into thick bamboo jungle to visit Northern Thailand hill tribes - Lahu, Akha, Lisu, Yao and Karen. The hike was quite strenuous with steep climbs in between. The sleeping condition under bitterly cold temperature less than 10 degree in shabby bamboo huts with only a few blankets were beyond words to describe. Nevertheless, I found it was great experience to learn to survive in such harsh environment.

For those who interested in taking similar trek if possible do reach out to hill tribes by merely bringing some stationery for the kids or donate warm clothing to them, the people there do not mind to accept use items.
