The Zugspitse in Germany

Last week we go to the top of the mountion the Zugspitse,this is the greats mountion from germany. He is 2930 high..But it was a little bit misty that is a pitty.Downstars by the eibsee was the weather beautifull.

Zugspitse
2962 Meters elevation. Which with the advent of newer technologies has revealed to actually be around 2966 Meters elevation. A great place to visit for skiing, hiking and Lake Eibsee. Highly recommended.

Brings back memories
When I was young, my father was stationed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for about 4 years with the U.S. Air Force. It was simply amazing waking up every morning to see the snow capped Zugspitz in my backyard. Of course, the skiing was absolutely amazing there, too. Your photos were well taken and bring me back in my mind to when I was about 10!! Thanks for sharing!!

On November 1, 1949 I took 10 men of the 438th Signal Aviation Heavy Construction Company, stationed at Camp Pieri (5 miles outside of Wiesbaden, Germany) to Garmish for a 10 day R & R. During this time we visited the Zugspitse. We stayed in a hotel near the Zugspitse and rode a cable car to the top of the Zugspitse. I would love to have some pictures of this hotel (forgot the name) and pictures of the cable car in operation.

Due they still have skiing on the mountain? Do you have any photos of the train that goes up onto the top? Just wondering,I was there in 1982,but did not have a camera.

This is to Fred. Now that Germany and Austria are both members of the European Union, the borders between these two countries are no longer closed and patrolled. They are open to passage.

Fred Gordon
I once stayed in Seefeld for a few days, and could see the Zugpitze from my bedroom window. I have not been to the summit of the mountain, so it is nice to see it through your eyes. I understand that the border between Austria and Bavaria runs through the summit and at one time a manned border post was erected at the summit. Is this true? and is it still patroled. Lovely photos
