Provideniya was the only Russian city we visited on this cruise. It is on the Chukotka peninsula, and is the easternmost city in Russia, only about 200 miles from the US. The breakup of the old Soviet Union took away Provideniya's naval base and the city has deteriorated ever since. Lenin, however, lives on in the city's small museum --his profile cleverly cut into reindeer hide.
