In the shadow this Obsidian Rock appears more like its shiny self than in bright sunlight. The molten rock which cools at surface forms this glass-like subtance. If cooled deep under the surface, it becomes granite. The many patterns found on this mile-long exposded Obsidian dome are the different types of soil.
