The most ancient settlement from which originated the town of Greve can, almost with certainty, be traced to the hill of S. Francesco, where since the 11th century, a donation of S. Bernardo of the Uberti at the S. Savi Monastery has been documented. Afterwards, it became the centre of an ancient hospital and from the end of the 15th century, a small monastic settlement of the Franciscan order from which it retains its name.
