In 1999, based on the idea and initiative of the Mayor of Greve in Chianti, Paolo Saturnini, Cittàslow was founded, the International Association of good living. The founding partners are the Municipalities of Greve in Chianti, Orvieto, Bra and Arcigola Slow Food. By their Charter, cities are cittaslow if they: practise an environmental policy inclined towards maintaining and developing the characteristics of the land and of the tessuto urbano*, enhancing in the first place, the value of recycling and reusing; practise an infrastructure policy that functions to enhance the value of the land and not of its occupation; promote the use of technology oriented towards improving the quality of the environment and of the tessuto urbano
