Positioned atop of the characteristic square of the mercatale (market), the S. Croce church, present headquarters of *propositura*, is a spacious structure built in 1833 in neo-classical forms replacing an old collapsing oratory. It was created by the architect Luigi Cambray Digny, that left nothing of the pre-existing construction. Even though the structure does not claim the same ancient origins of most other churches of the Chianti, it still conserves a remarkable art collection coming from the surrounding churches that are no longer active:
