4/8/07 - My process: After wet sanding with 1200/2000 and then again with worn-out 2000 (maybe 2500?), I compounded twice with perfect-it 3000. The first pass was aggressive using moderate pressure and taking all the residue back into the pad. Checked that spot for sanding marks and moved on if OK. On the second compound pass, I used a lot of water and kept the site very damp. I toweled off the residue. The surface looked amazing with almost no swirl marks. Next I went with the swirl remover on the buffer. It made a mess and flung everywhere OR if I used less it dried up and grabbed too soon. Being outside in the sun and a warm body could have been a factor. Anyway I tried the swirl remover on an old t-shirt rag and found I could hand apply it with less mess and exactly the same quality finish as using the buffer. I hand'ed the car using two passes and only the smallest marks remained. BTW, the t-shirt is the BEST rag for this I have ever used. Forget hand towels, they suck.
