Here's the results of soaking 15 minutes with 12V connected in a tub of sulphuric acid. It really fogged the shine. I'm not happy with the results and will check into bright dip anodizing. Clear coat is really just a shortened version of hardcoat anodizing that leaves the metal dark grey. UPDATE: Bright Dip anodizing made the metal very bright but dulled the shine to a satin finish. Almost looks un-buffed like very clean stock aluminum panels. I finally settled on a product called SharkHide. It's an acrylic coating you wipe on and it dries very hard. Its only drawback is it will fog or worse is splashed with an agressive solvent. It can be recoated and stands up to 230 degree heat without damage. It doesn't dull the finish at all.
