Modern monstrosities, a.k.a. skyscrapers rise heartlessly behind Singapore's colonial past. The row of villas you see in the background form part of Singapore's Colonial Quarter. There are several waterfront cafes which open in the evening. We visited in the morning, had to catch a flight later in the evening, so had to satisfy ourselves with this picture from the other side of the Singapore River.
