Vezelay in North Burgundy reminds me very much of Lincoln in England, in that it stands on a prominent hill and on it is a fine church , which can be seen from miles away.

The church at one time allegedly held the bones of Mary Magdalene, and thus became one of the four starting points of the Pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostella in Spain. It was also the place where King Philippe-Auguste of France and Richard the Lionheart met before they went on the Third Crusade.
