Whyalla & the Outback

We went to Whyalla for a visit, so I drove around and took some pictures. Whyalla is about 382 kms north west of Adelaide. It has around 25,000 people. My wife and I grew up here and of course we met fell in love and got marrried here.

BHP and the Shipyards were the main industries there when we were growing up but the Shipyards closed in the late 1970s. There used to be 35,000 people then and Whyalla was the second largest city in South Australia.

Whyalla
Hi Maria,

We used to live in Whyalla now we live in Adelaide the capital of South Australia which is about a 3 & 1/2 hours from Whyalla. Some of the best Snapper and King George Whiting fishing is to be had at Whyalla. You are in the Outback , great country around there, and you will see Kangaroos and Emus. Tim

Thinking of moving to Whyalla
Pictures are nice. Might be moving from Ontario, Canada. Very nervous. Quiet a different place from here. Any advise from Whyalla.

I was born in Whyalla in 1969, we moved to Adelaide when I was 11 years old. These photos brought some memories back. I remember going to the beach a lot and remember some festival in summer at some beach where they would give away free icecream.

Whyalla
Such great photos!! Loved them all. "borrowed" bunches of them! My deceased father-in-law, worked for BHP , maybe around the 60's. they moved on down to Adelaide from there.
