Here are some photos from the 22nd Flora London Marathon that was run on Sunday April 14, 2002. The course ran straight past our front door on Woolwich Road, Charlton at about the 4 mile mark.

   The competitors included some of the best runners in the world. The men's event was won by Khalid Khannouchi in 2:05:38 ahead of Haile Gebreselassie and the Ethiopians Gezahegne Abera (reigning Olympic and World Champion), Tesfaye Tola, as well as Portugals Antonio Pinto, and Kenyas Paul Tergat.

   In the womens race Britains Paula Radcliffe took the title in 2:18:56 against Derartu Tulu, Romanias Lidia Simon (reigning World Champion) and Kenyans Tegla Loroupe and Catherine Ndereba.

   I even ran a leg of the marathon

   to the pub next door to our house.

   There was mix of serious runners and others that dressed up for fun or charity.
