Contrary to popular belief, scuba diving can be done quite cheaply! All you have to do is to look for the cheapest school that certifies or better yet, get certified in the 3rd World [during a vacation] where the course is a lot cheaper! As for equipments, you can also look for stores that sells the cheapest brands (this is what I did) since they serve the same purpose! Or better yet, look at the adds in the newspapers, magz [& etc.] for people who sells used gears. After getting certified, you can easily tell if a used gear is still good.
