Perito Moreno is famous for its periodic fracture phenomenon: every 3 or 4 years, all the front breaks down in a terrible noise in one or two days. This is due to the pressure of the water against the ice that reaches the Magallanes peninsula and obstructs the flow of the water of Brazo Rico, a branch of Lake Argentino. In the other periods some blocks of ice break from the front and crash into the water.
