This is my continuation of my walk along the beautiful streets in Old Havana. I hope these pictures will show you one of the most beautiful OLD Cities in the world.

Our hearts sunk many times. We had SILENT conversations with the passing locals. I could read their eyes and faces. In some situations I did not take any more pictures because my clicking camera sound would be too offensive to their miserable living conditions. ... (more)

You got the street names wrong. Calle Tejadillo is in Old Havana and San Lazaro is in Central Havana. Just for future reference.

The Grim Reality of Cuba - III
2.- You show us the dilapidated buildings in el Malecón. It's important to realize that Malecón (breakwater) is open to the Atlantic Ocean and gets the full force of the northern winds head on. As a consequence, the buildings there need regular maintenance, specially in form of painting. And there is no paint in Cuba!

The Grim Reality of Cuba
Now, in this album, reality explode in our faces. You show us the areas around the Malecon. Now, let me give some additional information that may explain a number of points in this album: 1.- You ask why the locals are checked by the police. Easy answer: in your photo we may see that the locals are two young girls. Policeman is checking that they are not prostitutes (called. in Cuba, Jineteras -"Horseriders"). This a very sad story since many young girls sell their bodies as an easy way to get hard US dollars i.e. their way to prosperity. This was banned by Castro about 4 years ago in a move to restore some "decency" to the tourist industry and the "credibility" of the "revolution".

The Real Havana
Up till now, in your previous articles, we were shown the nice Havana Vieja. That is the part of Havana where the money is used in restoring the ancient dilapidated buildings. You decided, quite rightly, not to shock us giving only subtle glimpses of the grim reality of everyday life of the cubans (follow)
