Buenos Aires may have more leather shops than any other city. They are currently selling products made from the Capybara, the largest rodent in the world, at premium prices. The semi-acquatic Capybara, which weighs over 100 pounds and is found in South America from the Andes to the Amazon, has long been farmed for both meat and leather. These butter-soft, suede-like Capybara belts are on display in a leather shop just off the Plaza San Martin.
