If one spends enough time in South Korea they will eventually experience the "Visa Run". That is when you have to leave the country for a very short period of time and go to a Korean consulate to get a work visa issued to you. For reasons of red tape the issuing of work visas never occure inside of Korea.
The typical visa run is to take a ferry to Fukuaka, Japan in the morning, visit the Korean consulate, stay the night, go back to the consulate and get the visa, take the ferry back to Korea. Usually you are in and out of
