Located at 18, Rue des Petits Hôtels near the Gare du Nord is the Hôtel du Brabant, where I stayed. Small but conveniently located near several Métro stops, this one-star hotel was modest but clean. I was in Room 35 on the fifth floor, and the hotel doesn't have an elevator, so the stairs were fun. At about $52 per night (a fairly cheap rate in Paris), I'd recommend this little hotel if you are on a budget and want to be close to the central attractions of the city. The staff was friendly, though didn't speak much English; fortunately some of my college French came back to me! A shower, a clean bed, and a continental breakfast every morning (20FF additional) were all I needed.
