The Eiffel Tower was constructed for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris and was designed by Gustave Eiffel. 1042 feet high and weighing 7000 tons, the tower was originally decried as an eyesore by the Parisians of the time...little did they know that it would come to symbolize their wonderful city. Its use as a radio tower saved it from demolition in the early 20th Century.
