Bike trails in Southern NJ

Updated July 2003, this gallery now includes bicycle facilities in Cape May County NJ.

Atlantic County NJ has ambitious plans to develop a county wide network of bike lanes and multi-use paths. Most of the paths used on this journey are less than two years old, the Atlantic County bikeway for instance was opened in November 2002.

This article highlights the what's available to ride on now, what will be available in the future and where the network needs to be improved.

One transportation asset in South Jersey that is exceptionally cyclist-friendly is the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. It makes Cape Henlopen State Park and the hsitoric town of Lewes pleasant day trips from SNJ.

John, you ansewered most of my questions about bike paths in Cape May County. I'm looking forward to the Woodbine, Middle Township and Cold Springs paths being connected and someday possibly extended all the way into Cape May. I know there are plans to do that but do you know of any potential dates?

Nice Job
John, You did a fine job of documenting the current bikepath situation in my area (Nothfield). Until some of the problems you mention are solved, I'm afraid the full potential of these efforts remain to be seen. The conversion of the old railine in Pleasantville leading to Atlantic City is key. I think the amount of Casino Employees whp would commute to work would be considerable if a safe route were available. Thank you for your article.
