SAVE TANJUNG BUNGAH !

Tanjung Bungah in Penang island appeared in the news last year when its coastal shore was hit by the tsunami wave and many fishermen's homes and fishing vessels were destroyed. Perhaps that's the only time most people could recall this suburban town still exist in Malaysian map. Tanjung Bungah was used to be the most beautiful and liveable place in Penang with lush green hills and unspoilt coast line. However, over the years, the Penang State Government chose to ignore the rampant illegal home extensions, hill cutting and land filling activities there and today, Tanjung Bungah is famous for the most confusing road systems ( more than a dozen of redundant traffic lights along Jalan Tanjung Bungah ), the hottest stretch of unshaded road, the most number of illegal home extensions and alterations, and the most ecologically dead Sungai Kelian in the tourist belt of Penang.

Even the efforts of the Muslim Youth group to paint the longest Malaysian flag - Jalur Gemilang on the long concrete raised wall of the main road cannot spruce up Tg Bungah's deteriorating image.

The hills along Lembah Permai in Tanjung Bungah have suffered irrepairable damage in the hands of the developer and the quarry operators, with the kind consent from the state goverment.

This kind of environmental destruction should not be allowed to happen in this 21st century in Malaysia as we aim to be a developed nation by 2020.
