This is a bronzed-terracotta 'committee model' -one of several that were cast and used to help raise money to erect the Statue of Liberty in new York harbour. It was made by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi in France, in 1875, and is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue.
