We left Sydney for Byron Bay by Greyhound bus (8am to 9.15pm). The Bay used to be a beautiful but quiet backwater kind of place to hear my husband speak of it, with nobody there. That was years ago. It's now a popular destination, and looks like a Sydney suburb.

The bay itself is an incredibly wide expanse of beach. The coral sand is very fine, and so clean it squeaks as you walk on it. What shells you do see are live clams, uncovered by the waves as they sweep in, and then disappearing as they frantically dig themselves ... (more)
