Salvador da Bahia is the capital of Bahia state and is often abbreviated "Bahia" by Brazilians. The city was second, after Lisbon, in the Portuguese Empire. Many African slaves were brought to the city in the 15'th century and the city is also know as the "African soul of Brazil". In Salvador we stayed at the hotel "Farol" (Lighthouse), a **** hotel, on the top floor with a great view of the lighthouse at the point, marking the entrance to the bay "Baía de Todos os Santos". The hotel is lying right on the beach and you can watch the people relaxing on the "Praia do Porto da Barra".
