My family is from Santa Fe and I moved many years ago. I spent years in the Marinc Corps and settled in California. My father and mother are buried in the national cemetary. Your photos brought tears to this old mans eyes and brought back many memories. Thank you.

Phil, I'm in the United States Navy and I'm stationed in the Middle East. I'm a native New Mexican from Santa Fe and I've been missing home since I came here. Your photos have helped me out quite a bit with the home sickness. Until I saw some of your photos I had almost forgotten the natural beauty that Santa Fe posses. Thank you for that. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the balcony of the restraunt that you shot the picture of the plaza from was the Ore House. It's one of Santa Fe's best places for a nice dinner, though it's a bit on the expensive side. Again, thank you for the beauiful pictures of my home town, they mean a lot to me.

Social commentary in travel photography
Hi, Mano. Thanks so much for your always perceptive comments on my work. I was glad to see you link the craft and aesthetics in my work to social consciousness. I consider any technical ability and artistic flair that I might be able to bring to my imagery secondary to my ultimate purpose -- to communicate ideas. My ideas often involves social commentary. That's really why I travel in the first place. To be able to capture the meaning behind how people live -- and have lived -- their lives together on this planet is what travel photography, and indeed, this very web site, should be all about.

Philip, the golden hues of your Santa Fe photos are like molten gold.

The sun drenched pics of the buildings of Santa Fe remind me of the paintings of one of my favourite artists Edward Hopper.

And every sculpture pic is outstanding. My favourite is "Cold Cap, Canyon Road" with the snow maned alpha male with "perspiration" running down his face as he prepares for battle. Another favourite is "Crow Confrontation" which is really funny.

Even the architectural shots have a deep message. "Monument in chains, Santa Fe Plaza" is evocative and moving in many ways.

It is rare to see someone like you who is so sensitive toward his craft, deeply aesthetic and also socially conscious. Cheers! Mano
